When to Go
You can depart on a placement with The Humanity Exchange at any time of the year. The high season is from May to August, this is when most people choose to volunteer abroad. If you are planning to volunteer abroad during the summer months, it is best to apply as soon as you know your intended departure dates.
While not necessary, it is advisable that you apply for your program at least two months before your intended start date. This ensures you will have adequate time to prepare. Possible preparation activities include obtaining a passport and visa, obtaining necessary vaccinations, buying flights and insurance, completing cultural preparation, and fundraising.
A Volunteer Abroad placement with The Humanity Exchange can be anywhere from two weeks to four months. It is up to you how long you would like to stay in-country. Generally speaking, the greater the length of time you stay, the greater the impact for both you and the host community you will be working with. If you are completing an Internship Abroad, we require a commitment of at least two months. We consider placements that are longer than four months on a case-by-case basis.
